Picea abies ‘Pendula’
Weeping Norway Spruce
Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown PA (near the formal gardens)
This is a spectacular example of a weeping tree. "Every Weeping Nor- way Spruce has its own personality," garden association Bower & Branch has observed. "If Pendula is un- trained, it develops a weird, wacky and wonderful free-form shape."
With regard to the specimen at Ma- sonic Village, truer words were never spoken. In the first photo, the tree resembles, of all things, an octopus!
This amazing species (Norway Spruce) was the first conifer species to have its genome sequenced.
