Of the more than 800 species of ficus, F. salacifolia is one of the top four favored for bonsai. This specimen, 40-60 years old, has a stunning surface root pattern or nebari that makes for a spectacular base. 

This amazing species is epiphytic in that it can form aerial roots to begin life on the bark of another tree when seeds are deposited there by wind or birds.
