With a trunk circumference at breast height of about 11 feet 6 inches, this tree falls within the top ten Sugar Maples recorded for Pennsylvania, and is one of the largest in the county. It also gets my vote for being one of the most beautiful trees in the county.
This amazing species shows hydraulic lift by drawing water from lower soil layers and distributing it to upper drier layers, to the benefit of other plants growing nearby.
