Mexican White Pine
Masonic Village Arboretum, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown PA (Formal Gardens)

Planted in 1936, this is third oldest Mexican Pine living in American arboreta (slightly older specimens are at Westtown School Arboretum in Westtown PA, and the Institute of Forest Genetics in Placerville CA). Trunk circumference at breast height was 118 inches in 2018. The photo to the left shows the tree in 1978.

This amazing species is tropical in origin (its natural range is south of the Tropic of Cancer), and yet it can survive to about -20 degrees F and grows in cultivation as far north as Massachusetts.
