Quercus rubra

Red Oak (Northern Red Oak)

Ferncliff Nature Preserve, Wildlife Pre- serve Road, Drumore PA (on a ridge near an old dirt road that went to the former property owner's cottage)

Ad Crable

When this tree fell about 2015 at an estimated age of 280-300 years and with a trunk circumference (CBH) of 222 inches, it was among the top ten largest Red Oaks in Pennsylvania. Its circumfer- ence was exceptional for a forest speci- men (field-grown Red Oaks develop stouter trunks). The stump, which bal- looned out on the far side, was almost completely hollowed out and "you could hold a tea party inside." (Crable)
