Ficus benjamina
Fig Tree
Park City Mall, Plaza Boulevard, Lan- caster PA
Len Eiserer
Park City has a collection of a dozen excellent Ficus (2 each in the East Shoppes and Fountain Shoppes cor- ridors; 4 each in the South and Kohl’s corridors).
This fig is one of the most common and tolerant indoor trees. Each Park City specimen is 7-10 feet tall and very well maintained.
F. benjamina is native to Asia and Aus- tralia. Few Americans have any idea what this tame, potted plant can be- come in its natural environment. The last photo shows a magnificent speci- men at the Royal Gardens in Sri Lanka. [Photo by Giuseppe Mazza]
This amazing species has been docu- mented to effectively remove gaseous formaldehyde and other harmful pol- lutants from indoor air.
